About the speakers:
Darren Dukes is a qualified physiotherapist with a keen interest in running, he has many years experience, he lectures at post graduate training courses and he runs a private sports and running practice near Cape Town. Having competed in multiple Comrades Marathons himself, and having treated many Comrades and Ironman competitors, he has worked first hand with the key elements involved in injury prevention and performance enhancement. His one-hour talk will cover the elements of running mechanics and how improving these will prevent injury and improve performance, he will also talk about the role of stretching and hands on management in the build up to any big endurance event.
Ian Craig is an exercise physiologist, nutritional therapist, NLP practitioner and an endurance coach. He was a competitive middle-distance runner for 20 years and is now a more leisurely runner and cyclist. Ian specialises in Functional Sports Nutrition – a fast evolving discipline that considers both health and performance of an athlete. Ian is involved in post-graduate training, he is the editor of the Functional Sports Nutrition and Total Sports Nutrition magazines, he is a consultant for the genetics company DNAlysis and he runs his own private exercise and nutrition practice in Johannesburg. His one-hour talk will cover nutrition in sport, exercise physiology and how to increase performance through nutrition and training.
